Apple cider vinegar is, not surprisingly, made from apple cider!
For home grown vinegar you simply allow the cider to ferment over time and it will become cider vinegar naturally under the right conditions.
Vinegar itself apparently dates back a considerable period of time, perhaps even thousands of years. There's some evidence that apple cider vinegar may have been used by the ancient Egyptians and it's also said to have been used by Hippocrates around 400 BC for medicinal purposes.
So, is there any evidence to support the many claims made for its health benefits? Unfortunately very little has been done in terms of clinical trials on humans, so we are left with only some slightly encouraging evidence from animal tests, plus a ton of anecdotal stories of course!
Harmful in any way?
Possibly. There's some evidence that long term use or large doses could cause some damage internally and may possibly be linked to certain cancers, so ALWAYS consult your doctor if you intend taking it for any length of time. Taking it as a short term treatment or very low doses should be harmless as long as you have no other medical condition that may be affected - check with your doctor.
IMPORTANT!
Always go to see your doctor about any medical condition!!!
Even if you ultimately decide to try to treat it yourself you MUST always first get a proper expert diagnosis and advice on treatment, so don't put it off to next week, pick up the phone NOW to make that appointment! |
